You are invited to the School Daze Gala! On March 28, 2009 King and Queen Community Development, Inc., (KQCD) will celebrate the thirteen local artists and groups who transformed desks from the Old Marriott School into works of art. Join us from 6:00 PM to 9:00 at Aylett Country Day School in Millers Tavern. You are invited to dress like you did in high school. We expect to see bell bottoms, poodle skirts, big hair and a lot of plaid. It will be a grand time. There will be food, music and a cash bar. At 7:00PM we will auction off the desks as a fundraiser for the renovation of the Marriott School. There are other great items for auction as well, including a tour of the U.S. Capitol and lunch for four in the Capitol dining room with Congressman Rob Wittman, two tours of the Virginia State Capitol by Delegate Chris Peace and Senator Ryan McDougle, tennis lessons, horseback riding lessons, various pieces of art and more.
The artists who created these desk sculptures are Buttons Boggs, Walkerton; K. Anne Careatti, Tappahannock; Ann Chenoweth, Bruington; Michael Martin,Bruington; The Monk Family - Suny, Joe, Chatham and Mavora, Amherst; Cecky Ropelewski,Walkerton; Alan Sader, Bruington; Karen Tootelian-Westermann, West Point; Sewing Ladies of Walkerton; Jonathan Walsh, Aylett; Lawson-Marriott Elementary School and Central High School.
Tickets are $25 per person or $40 for two and are on sale by calling 804-769-9656 or by visiting the website at www.kqcd.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the following locations: EVB Aylett Branch, EVB Main Office in Tappahannock, KQCD office in Walkerton, KQ Treasurers Office at the Courthouse, and King William Pharmacy in Aylett. Tickets include admittance to the event, participation in the desk sculpture auction, hors douvres, and one complimentary drink ticket. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
